It reminds me of the local Labour Party in the 80s with middle class members proposing resolutions on whether the chair should be chairperson or chairwoman. Whilst most of these 'ban Xmas/blackboard' stories tend to be myths, there were people more concerned with trivial issues during the Thatcherite onslaught.
