An army mother who runs bleating to the Sun, and then pretends she had no idea it would whip up a storm in a teacup, is no better than a Prime Minister who apparently has nothing better to do than scrawl illegible notes and make idiotic grovelling phone calls to families of dead soldiers who – after all – must have been aware of the risks they were running when they joined up.

As for the Murdoch press, it long ago abandoned any pretence of being an honest purveyor of news, or of responsible opinion. Murdoch is far more contemptible than those 1930s press barons, Rothermere and Beaverbrook, of whom Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin said he wouldn’t have men of that sort in his house. They at least had some political principles, even though maverick ones. Brown, by contrast, publicly fawns over the cynical Murdoch even after this squalid frame-up.

As for having his phone calls tapped, when we were told only yesterday that “every phone call, text message, email and website visit made by private citizens is to be stored for a year and will be available for monitoring by government bodies” [Daily Telegraph], what else can he expect? What’s source for the goose….. Surely this sort of Stasi surveillance is what our parents and grandparents fought against in Hitler’s war, and what we should all be fighting against now.anticanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18135207107619114891noreply@blogger.com
